A Facebook user, Olajide Segun, who announced that a lady had died, has taken down his post following DUBAWA’s fact-check. On Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, the user took to numerous Facebook groups, including “Lekki Ajah Connect,” to announce the death of a lady. He claimed that the lady had been used for ritual by her boyfriend.

We utilised an open-source intelligence tool, Forensically, to confirm the authenticity of the claimant’s post. We found that the original picture had been manipulated, with the inscription “RIP” added to it. Using Google Reverse Image Search, DUBAWA traced the source of the image accompanied by the claimant’s caption to the lady in question’s Facebook account. Our team also spoke to the lady, Priscilla Ayodele, who confirmed that she was well and alive.

She told DUBAWA that she was “horrified” when she saw the claim and was particularly worried about what her family’s reaction would be, especially her mother, who was ill at the time.

Following our fact check and rating of the post on Facebook, the claimant deleted his posts. Priscilla expressed gratitude to our team for their efforts in curbing the disinformation.

“When the posts were finally taken down, I felt so much relief.” She said. “I was grateful, and I felt at peace.”
