Claim: An X user shared a video claiming it shows a protest in Ghana against the installation of an Igbo king in the country.
Verdict: Misleading! Various reports online show that the video is linked to a protest by NPP supporters in Ghana over Ashanti’s regional chairman, Bernard Boasiako’s arrest.

Recently, there have been speculations about installing an Igbo traditional ruler, Eze Chukwudi, over the Igbo residents in Ghana.
Against this backdrop, an X user, @AsakyGRN, shared a 47-second video on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, and claimed Ghanaians were protesting the installation of an Igbo King in their country.
In the video, a mob tries to force its way into a compound, supposedly owned by the Igbo community, but is barricaded by the police from gaining entrance.
Along with the clip, the X user wrote, “Ghanaian youths protest against Igbo dominance after the Igbos installed an Igbo king in Ghana.”
As of Saturday, June 12, 2025, the video had amassed over 1.8 million views, 10,000 likes, 1,040 reposts, 944 bookmarks, and 412 quotes.
While many users believed the video’s authenticity, reinforcing ethnic stereotypes, a few doubted it.
“Why do these people like to cause trouble anywhere they go in the world?” @Dele93748586 questioned.
Another comment by @Olumax3028 reads, “When people don’t like you everywhere you go, sometimes you have to stop assuming they are the problem and look at yourself.”
“Fake News,” @GreatCbscjim stated.

Due to the high engagement the post generated and its potency to ignite a national-ethnic crisis, DUBAWA conducted this investigation.
Verification
DUBAWA subjected parts of the video clip to Google Reverse Image Search, and it linked us to a similar and lengthy version on Facebook.
The Facebook video, shared on May 30, 2025, by Onua 95.1FM, a radio station based in Accra, was captioned, “Wontumi Arrest: Tensions rise as NPP supporters push back against police barrier.”
A further investigation linked us with an Instagram page, Tv3_ghana, which had also shared the same video and captioned it “NPP supporters, Wotunmi detention.”
Similarly, the same video was shared on YouTube by 3FM 92.7 between the 58:00 and 60:00 minutes of the clip.
We conducted an extensive keyword search on Wotunmi’s arrest and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s protest in May.
According to a report published on May 30, 2025, some supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) protested the unlawful and continued detention of Ashanti’s regional chairman, Bernard Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, at the Head office of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Conclusion
Our research reveals that the video is unrelated to any Igbo ruler development and has been online since May 2025.
You’re not telling the full story because from the video I watched, not just one video, looks like your research is incomplete. Different angry individuals were actually saying Igbos should go back to their country. One particularly individual was talking about an Igbo king and saying that he is not going to be the first black man to start recolonization. How can you dispose all these and just write off the story? Who told you it’s just one video circulating about this issue? Do your research well and don’t deceive the public.
