Claim: An X user claims that the Federal Government has scrapped the JSS and SSS education due to high dropout rates.

Verdict: Misleading. The Federal Government has not yet implemented the plan, as the Minister of Education stated that it remains a proposal that would be presented at the next National Council of Education.
Full Text
The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria recently raised concerns about 20 million pupils dropping out of school before reaching the Senior Secondary School (SSS).
The FG noted that the disarticulation policy, which mandated that the Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) operate separately, has not achieved its intended objectives and will be discontinued.
In light of this development, an online blog, @yabaleftonline, claims (archived here) that the Federal Government has abolished the JSS and SSS education due to a high school dropout rate.
“FG scraps JSS, SSS secondary education system amidst rise in out of school children,” The X user claimed.
A similar claim was shared on Facebook (see here).
As of Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the post has generated 873,300 views, 738 comments, 969 retweets, 5,400 likes, and 520 bookmarks.
In the comment section, some X users agreed with the alleged development, some questioned it, and others pointed out that the claim was inauthentic.
“This is a solid move,” @olamide_ggb commented.
“This isn’t the solution to the problems we have…” joan_cyber reacted.
“This is not the accurate news, please,” @benfil_ wrote.
Due to the contradictory comments and the sensitivity of the claim, DUBAWA decided to verify the post and set the record straight.
Verification
DUBAWA checked reputable news outlets to see if any had reported the claimant’s assertion. We noticed that there was no report on the alleged news that the FG has already scrapped JSS and SSS education.
However, we noticed that The Punch reported that the FG announced “plans” to scrap the policy that separates the junior secondary schools from senior secondary schools, after discovering that over 20 million pupils had dropped out of school before reaching senior secondary education.
The news outlet reported that the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, stated that the disarticulation policy, which was introduced in 1982, has failed in its objectives. Tunji further stated that the “proposal” to abolish the policy would be presented at the next National Council on Education meeting for approval.
Premium Times also reported that the FG proposed ending the separation between junior secondary school and senior secondary school to enhance school retention and curb the high number of pupils dropping out before completing secondary education.
Vanguard newspaper also reported a similar narrative.
Conclusion
The FG has not scrapped JSS and SSS education. The minister only revealed plans to propose scrapping the disarticulation policy. The claim is therefore misleading.
