Claim: An X user claimed that Donald Trump apologised to President Bola Tinubu for unfounded accusations over the past years.

Did Trump apologise to Tinubu over terrorism claims?

Full Text

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, an X user, @OluremiTinubu (archived here), claimed that the United States (US) President, Donald Trump, has apologised to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for past accusations about the country’s current terrorism situation. The post contained a screenshot of the said news broadcast.

The X post caption read, “BREAKING: Donald Trump apologised to President Tinubu for the unfounded accusations made over the past year. According to Trump, he ‘was wrong about the Nigerian authorities’ culpability regarding the current terrorism situation in the country…”

As of Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, the post had generated over 108,000 views, 1,000 likes, 465 comments, 343 reposts,s and 175 bookmarks.

DUBAWA observed that while some X users in the comments believed the claim, others criticised it, and some tagged it false.

One user, @TheOjovi, wrote, “He’s their puppet. They want to give him a soft landing so he can continue to destroy Nigeria. Tinubu must go.”

Another commenter, @KENNYROSSY_097, who linked the account to the First Lady, expressed, “It’s a big shame if oluremitinubu should come out to claim false information to the masses! The masses are no longer the zombies you all knew in the past years. All eyes are wide open now.”

In doubt, @CharlesBlinkz7x stated, “Why didn’t you tag Trump if this is the truth? APC and propaganda are 5 & 6.”

A similar claim was shared on Facebook here, here, and here.

Given the personalities involved and the claim’s significance, DUBAWA carried out this verification.

Verification

We ran a reverse image search on the claimant’s image, and the results led us to a video World Source News shared on X on Aug. 31, 2026.

The post’s caption revealed that Trump was speaking about the Strait of Hormuz.

Because the video’s caption differed from the claimant’s, we took screenshots from the clip and ran them through a reverse image search. The results led us to a longer version shared on Facebook by Northeast Live, a satellite news channel in India. Northeast Live shared the post on Sept. 1, 2026.

The caption reads, “President Donald Trump says, ‘Iran is a failed nation… But that doesn’t mean we will not smack them. We have the Strait of Hormuz in extremely good shape… Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. If Iran had a nuclear weapon, Israel would have been wiped out…”

Further search led us to a report by This is Beirut on Aug. 31, 2026, reporting that President Trump spoke to the press about Iran being a failed nation.

Reuters on the same date reported the same story, adding that President Trump has threatened to strike against Iran after its first direct attack. This statement followed Iran’s missile launch at two US Air bases in Jordan, which was in response to the US attacks on Iran’s Larak Island.

Al Jazeera, Fox News, AP News, and Iran International also reported similar developments in August 2026.

Did President Trump apologise to Tinubu as portrayed?

Having established that the image the claimant shared related to a different event, we checked President Trump’s official Truth Social. We found a similar post on Aug. 30, 2026, in which he berated Iran.

Part of the post’s caption reads, “Iran is officially a Failed Nation. IT IS DEAD! They have no Navy, they have no Air Force, they have no currency, they are not paying their soldiers or police, Inflation is at 300%, and their leadership is in total disarray and incapable of properly representing the country. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J.TRUMP…”

We then ran the claimant’s image through AI detector tools to check for any manipulation. Results from AI Vigilai and a fake image detector showed that the image contains a high percentage of AI-generated spoofs and computer modification.

Furthermore, we checked whether any Nigerian or international news outlet published anything about the US president’s alleged apology to President Tinubu but found no such report.

Also, DUBAWA found that the X account @oluremitinubu that posted the claim is not the official account of the Nigerian First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu. The First Lady’s real X account is Senator Remi Tinubu @SenRemiTinubu.

Conclusion

Our investigation shows that President Trump did not apologise to President Tinubu as claimed. Moreover, the image shared alongside the claim had been altered to suit the narrative. The claim is, therefore, false.
