In a video<\/a> that has gone viral, persons believed to be graduating students were\u00a0 dressed in academic regalia, receiving laurels\u00a0 during\u00a0 what looked like a convocation congregation process and chanting \u201cYey Dominion Yey.\u201d The video has stunned social media users and has become\u00a0 a hot topic of discussion. The event which happened on the 26th<\/sup> March 2022 in the western rural district of Waterloo<\/a> triggered further investigation and whistleblower revelation by\u00a0 many\u00a0 people who had previously and unknowingly, acquired fake degrees from fake universities online and offline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though the scene<\/a> of the congregation quickly became a subject of social media ridicule, it also ignited a more troubling revelation of fake degree holders in top government positions as well as in the civil and public service across the country. Through its press release, the Commission quoted\u00a0 the Anti- Corruption Act of 2008, as amended in 2019 Section 128(3), which states that persons \u201c\u2026who would have willfully or knowingly used or submitted what would amount to \u201cfake\u2019 certificate degrees to confer advantage on themselves\u201d constitutes acts of corruption.\u00a0 The Commission adds that it is yet to be proven that the accused persons used those certificates to gain undue advantages or promotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some may even succeed to trick their way to have the \u201cedu\u201d suffix added to their website but that is not enough reason to completely trust a school. It is always advised that people do thorough research  and reach out to institutions, as well as accreditation agencies before making enrollment moves or making any payment to such institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
