Africa Facts Summit, a conference organised by Africa Check, has commenced at the United States International University Africa in Nairobi, Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two-day event, a gathering of fact-checkers, researchers, and other experts working on information disorder, will be held on November 9 and 10, 2022. On both days, the Summit is designed to host panel sessions on media literacy, fact-checking and elections, and social media monitoring, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Summit will also feature sessions by Meta representatives who are billed to talk about how tech companies tackle the spread of false information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, Executive Director of Africa Check, Noko Makgato, said the Summit was organised for fact-checkers \u201cto share ideas and best practices in effective ways of combating the scourge of misinformation on our continent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event coincides with Africa Check\u2019s 10th-year anniversary and will also feature the annual fact-checking award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Awards will be presented to the winner and runner-up in three categories: Fact-Check of the Year by a Working Journalist, Fact-Check of the Year by a Professional Fact-Checker, and Fact-Check of the Year by a Student Journalist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The host noted that winners of the working journalist and professional fact-checker categories will each get a prize of $3,000. The runners-up would receive $1,500.
