{"id":12481,"date":"2022-11-11T12:26:24","date_gmt":"2022-11-11T11:26:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/?p=12481"},"modified":"2022-11-11T17:00:22","modified_gmt":"2022-11-11T16:00:22","slug":"dubawa-fact-checker-wins-at-african-check-fact-checking-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/dubawa-fact-checker-wins-at-african-check-fact-checking-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"DUBAWA fact-checker wins African Fact-Checking Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA fact-checker, Jonas Nyabor, has emerged winner of the 2022 African Fact-checking Awards in the \u2018Fact-Check of the year by a Professional Fact-Checker\u2019 category.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Nyabor won the award with his <a href=\"https:\/\/ghana.dubawa.org\/unmasking-the-faces-behind-the-covid-19-anti-vaccination-campaign-in-ghana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fact-check<\/a> article which exposed perpetrators of an anti-vaccination campaign in Ghana.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was presented the award at an award dinner wrapping up the 2022 Africa Facts Summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Nyabor thanked both DUBAWA and Africa Check for providing him with a platform and mentorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI appreciate DUBAWA for the mentorship and guidance provided to me on this journey of promoting truth in public discourse,\u201d he said. \u201cOf course to Africa Check for setting the pace; resources, and trainings to develop fact-checking across the continent,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the same category, James Okong\u2019o of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AFPFactCheck\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AFP Fact Check<\/a> emerged runner-up with his <a href=\"https:\/\/factcheck.afp.com\/doc.afp.com.32BK2FL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fact-check<\/a> article, titled: \u2018False political quotes fuel online disinformation ahead of Kenya election.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the \u2018Fact-Check of the Year by a Working Journalist,\u2019 Kunle Adebajo of HumAngle Media emerged winner while Kabir Yusuf of Premium Times was adjudged, runner-up.
