{"id":12538,"date":"2022-11-18T20:04:08","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T19:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/?p=12538"},"modified":"2022-11-18T21:37:46","modified_gmt":"2022-11-18T20:37:46","slug":"live-fact-check-daria-media-presidential-town-hall-features-aac-candidate-sowore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/live-fact-check-daria-media-presidential-town-hall-features-aac-candidate-sowore\/","title":{"rendered":"LIVE FACT-CHECK: Daria media presidential town hall features AAC candidate, Sowore"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Day two of Daria media presidential town hall series has commenced, featuring the flagbearer of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two-time contender for the presidential seat will be present with his running mate, Haruna Magashi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The town hall series tagged \u201cThe Candidate\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/live-fact-check-daria-media-presidential-town-hall-commences-with-sdp-candidate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commenced yesterday<\/a> where the Social Democratic Party\u2019s presidential and vice-presidential hopefuls, Adewole Adebayo and Yusuf Buhari, addressed a series of questions related to governance in Nigeria.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The presidential town hall series, which was birthed to engage presidential aspirants about their plans ahead of the February 25 general election, is anchored by Kadaria Ahmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA and other members of the Nigerian Fact-checkers\u2019 Coalition (NCF), will be involved in live fact-checking of claims made by the candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Claims made by the candidates and their fact-checks are presented below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Claim 1<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Claim: Omoyele Sowore claimed previous government spent 16 billion dollars [on power sector], referring to the Olusegun Obasanji administration.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Finding<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The claim has been in circulation that President Olusegun Obasanjo&#8217;s administration spent $16 billion on electricity. However, there are no publicly available official records that prove this. Some members of the Obasanjo administration have refuted the claim.
