On August 12, 2023, news about the death of Nigerian artiste Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad, went viral on social media. His management later confirmed<\/strong><\/a> his demise via the singer\u2019s Instagram handle. He died at age 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of the singer\u2019s fans took to social media to mourn him. Meanwhile, different reports<\/strong><\/a> analysing the cause of the musician\u2019s death surfaced online. Some social media users criticised Mohbad\u2019s colleagues in the music industry, alleging that they contributed to the singer’s untimely passing.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mohbad was previously signed to Marlian Records, owned by Naira Marley. In October 2022, the \u2018Feel Good\u2019 crooner alleged<\/strong><\/a> he was assaulted by his management team at the Marlian house after demanding a manager change.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following his demise, some fans accused<\/strong><\/a> the Marlian boss of causing the troubles that killed Mohbad.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 13, TikTok users posted various videos claiming some young people had attacked Naira Marley’s residence at Lekki. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While some shared videos suggesting the house was set on fire, others said young boys invaded the house, as seen here<\/strong><\/a>, here<\/strong><\/a>, here<\/strong><\/a> and here<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA observed that some social media users believed the video to be true. However, others were sceptical as they wondered how hoodlums were permitted into the Estate where Naira Marley resides. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the virality of the claim and the sensitivity of the issue, DUBAWA fact-checked it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA subjected the first video<\/strong><\/a> to a keyframe analysis on INVID, a video verification plug-in, and the result showed that the footage was taken from an unrelated event.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video was posted on YouTube<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>and was <\/strong>shot by ABC7Chicago on March 7, 2023. It depicts a house fire in Chicago, United States.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second video<\/strong><\/a> was also subjected to the INVID video analysis tool, but there was no result. However, DUBAWA observed the audio used in the video had been repeated.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A common trend with the audio is that users hold their phone, shake it vigorously to make it seem like they are under attack and attach the audio to it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When DUBAWA traced the audio to ascertain the original use of the sound on TikTok, it was traced to @9shankhan\u2019s account<\/strong><\/a>. The video was uploaded in June 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several other videos on TikTok show the attack on Naira Marley’s house using the same sound as seen here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA also ran a keyword search on the alleged attack and found that no credible media outlet reported it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Efforts to contact the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, proved abortive, and text messages sent to him had yet to receive responses as of the time of filing this report. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
