The Africa Fact Summit, the largest gathering of fact-checkers, researchers, and journalists in the continent, has commenced at the University of Mauritius. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year’s event is scheduled for Oct. 5th to 6th, 2023, and will centre around the theme, “Building Non-Partisan Fact-Checking on the Continent.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A keynote presentation by Andrew Dudfield of Full Fact will look into the impact of AI on fact-checkers; a session by Mevan Babakar will centre on the support Google offers fact-checking in Africa; while Clara Jimenez of the European Fact-checking Standards Network (EFCSN) will focus on the strengths of network and collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Panel sessions during the summit will focus on fact-checking during elections, climate change, media literacy, and using cartoons for fact-checking, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DUBAWA is expected to feature in some of the sessions. Silas Jonathan, DUBAWA\u2019s fact-checker, will be on a panel to discuss \u2018Fact-checking elections\u2019 and lead a workshop on the impacts of bots on the Nigerian 2023 elections. Both sessions will be held on the first day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a breakaway session on the same day, Monsur Hussain of DUBAWA will lead the audience on the organisation\u2019s novel innovation of building an audio platform that automatically extracts claims for fact-checking on the radio.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
