There have been increasing rumours about the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) laid a siege<\/a> on him at his Abuja residence on April 17, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The White Lion, as he is fondly called, was going to be arrested<\/a> for an alleged financial fraud of over N80 billion, among other things. But \u201cwhere is Mr Bello?\u201d The EFCC was able to answer this question after he had somehow escaped arrest. Things could, however, take a different turn, as Ola Olukayode, chairman of the EFCC, has promised to resign<\/a> if he fails to prosecute Mr Bello.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As these events unfolded, various narratives emerged on social media, with users claiming to have spotted the fleeing politician. In one recently fact-checked<\/a> by DUBAWA, he was allegedly seen leaping over a fence. While that was proven false, a video<\/a> also surfaced with Mr Bello reportedly showing off a newly acquired car, even as the EFCC wants him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the clip received few likes and comments, it has since appeared in multiple places, as seen here<\/a>, here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We broke the clip into keyframes and conducted a reverse image search on a few. Results linked the video\u2019s source to a 2020 First Weekly Magazine<\/a> and Society Now<\/a> publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
