As this event approaches, DUBAWA has seen several clips from alleged protests against the planned protest on various social media platforms. Some say that protests have already started in some states. This particular narrative is circulating with a protest video shared on Facebook and X, as seen here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the video, young people were seen carrying placards and banners with inscriptions like \u201cEnd Nigerian Hardship,\u201d \u201cNigerians deserve better,\u201d and \u201cTinubu, it\u2019s not by force.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using multimedia content to drive narratives is not uncommon, especially in moments like this. Most of the time, DUBAWA ends up debunking such narratives as false. It is for that reason that we are conducting this verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We broke the video into keyframes using Invid<\/a> and reverse-searched some screenshots. The results showed that the clip has been on YouTube<\/a> since 19 Feb. 2024, when the youths led a peaceful demonstration in Ibadan (Oyo State) over the state of Nigeria\u2019s economy. This was also reported by media platforms like Channels TV<\/a>, Leadership<\/a>, Punch<\/a>, and New Telegraph<\/a> newspapers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
