On February 15, 2019, an online newspaper, My State News<\/a>, published a news report with the headline: “Buhari<\/i>\u00a0remains<\/i>\u00a0the<\/i>\u00a0best<\/i>\u00a0option<\/i>\u00a0for<\/i>\u00a0Nigeria<\/i>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Ghanaian<\/i>\u00a0President<\/i>“.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
According to the news report, Mr Akufo-Addo said Mr Buhari still remains the best option for Nigeria.<\/div>\n

To verify this claim, Dubawa sent an email to the office of the President of Ghana to confirm if Mr Akufo-Addo truly endorsed Mr Buhari’s re-election. [We are however awaiting response from them and this report would be updated if new information arises<\/em>.]<\/div>\n

While we waited for the response from Ghanaian president’s office, Dubawa carried out an independent check on the online news report’s claim. We checked the website’s<\/a>\u00a0contact information and discovered that it has neither a contact address\u00a0 nor a telephone number.<\/div>\n

Also, Dubawa did a random check on major Ghanaian newspapers<\/a> and observed that no major newspaper in Ghana published the endorsement report.<\/div>\n

We also conducted a Google reverse image search of the picture attached the story and it was confirmed that picture first appeared online in January 2017 in a post by BBC during Mr Akufo-Addo’s inauguration.<\/div>\n
