The first showed three dead men in military uniform inside a bush and the second showed a heap of half-bitten mangoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These images have since gone viral with various captions depicting the corpses as men of the Nigerian army killed during an attack on IPOB (The Indigenous People of Biafra) soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MidBrgie\/status\/1816409678386999327\">@MidBrgie<\/a>, a user, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MidBrgie\/status\/1816409678386999327\">mocked the deceased<\/a> soldiers with his repost, saying that \u201cthe Zoo terrorists of the Nigeria military went to EAT ma\u0146go and slept off.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The terms \u201cZoo and Terrorists\u201d are how supporters of IPOB describe Nigeria and its soldiers, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upholding this story, \u201cBiafra War Room,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Autopilothomee\/status\/1816365022974533745\">another user said<\/a> the soldiers were killed while destroying \u201cBiafra\u2019s land,\u201d killing their women and children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou saw them been deployed in our land to kill our women and children, burning down our houses shops &amp; to kill at will, but BLA \/ BDF eliminated the threat,\u201d he wrote in his post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Known for inciting violence in South-Eastern Nigeria through his sit-at-home orders, the Finish-based Mr Ekpa <a href=\"https:\/\/punchng.com\/dhq-declares-simon-ekpa-96-others-wanted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was declared wanted<\/a> by the Defence Headquarters in March 2024. Over the years, <a href=\"http:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/?s=Simon+Ekpa\">DUBAWA has debunked<\/a> multiple claims posted on his social media handles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to the inciting nature of the post and Mr Ekpa\u2019s reputation, we decided to verify the image shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Verification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We reverse-searched the image and found it linked to a recent face-off between soldiers and terrorists at a military outpost in the Savanes region of northern Togo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.journaldutogo.com\/togo-40-terroristes-gsim-neutralises-12-soldats-tues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> by Journal Du Togo, a Togolese newspaper, the said terrorists launched this attack on July 20, 2024, killing 12 Togolese soldiers, injuring several, and \u201ctaking away and destroying military equipment and weapons.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the process, the Togolese army also neutralised 40 of the attackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The image posted by Mr Ekpa has no connection with Nigeria or its military.
