The country&#8217;s heterogeneous cultural layout, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilsoncenter.org\/blog-post\/nigeria-has-more-500-languages-300-ethnic-groups-and-critically-important-elections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over 300 ethnic groups and 500 languages<\/a>, has contributed to this ethnic intolerance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, an X user, Yemi Titilola <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/yemit06\/status\/1825400855522156748?t=NggMely8n4MAja7TxgDFxw&amp;s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(@yemit06)<\/a>, shared a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/yemit06\/status\/1825400855522156748?t=NggMely8n4MAja7TxgDFxw&amp;s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video<\/a> showing a pot with meat purported to be human flesh being boiled, claiming it is a recent situation ongoing in Southeast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along with the barely half-a-minute video post reads, \u201cIn sad east.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, the video had amassed about 91,000 views, 26 likes, 33 bookmarks, 14 reposts, and seven quotes. An overview of the comment section indicated that users believed the video was to be filmed in Cameroon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou took a video that happened in Cameron to blackmail Igbos,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RichardDike6\/status\/1825480867667440025?t=m0zvDLxJK1UvW-0bHQRLhQ&amp;s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RichardDike6<\/a> wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA video that took place in Cameron is what you are using to foolishly spread falsehood against igbos?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CliffyTempa\/status\/1825418712293261612?t=xYyyv8HQhCt3wtas2C53eg&amp;s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CliffyTempa<\/a> asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another user <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TeddyReign\/status\/1825451684128018536?t=oNJssl_IYO2VyPs_Syh11w&amp;s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TeddyReign<\/a>, said, \u201cThis is Cameron. You must use a fake video.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to the sensitive nature of the claim and the controversy in the comment section, DUBAWA decided to verify the context and veracity of the video shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Verification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We extracted keyframes from the clip and conducted Google Reverse Image Searches. One of the results led us to a similar <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ogundamisi\/status\/1010484424146866177?t=EXMbsWKMSHEbt55RzvF9Sg&amp;s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video<\/a> posted on X on Jun. 23, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further searches show a similar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BkIFrVZnxnt\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video<\/a> posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BkIFrVZnxnt\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BkIFrVZnxnt\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hakeem Effect<\/a> on June 17, 2018. The caption that accompanied the video reads, \u201cThis is a prosthetic body part for a movie&#8230; special effects makeup..\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/m.imdb.com\/title\/tt8755032\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Omambala<\/a> is a movie written and directed by Austin Nnaemeka. Its cast includes Mr Onilogbo as a special effect makeup artist. The film was shot in Calabar, Nigeria, by Khing Line Production in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also found another similar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BkaVDJMHhwG\/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a> video posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BkaVDJMHhwG\/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hakeem Effect<\/a>, also known as Hakeem Onilogbo, in 2018. This video featured the same man with the pot on the fire in the main video.
