Babatunde Gbadamosi, an X user, tweeted<\/a> a claim that the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, lost four southwestern states during the 2023 election that brought him to power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His tweet partly reads, \u201cYorubas VOTED against Tinubu. He lost Lagos, Ogun, Osun, and Oyo badly. He BOUGHT Ekiti and Ondo votes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from circulating on X, the tweet has also been reposted on Facebook, as seen here<\/a> and here<\/a>, with multiple users believing it to be true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political misinformation doesn’t only thrive during elections hence the need to verify the assertion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2023 presidential election was fiercely contested with candidates cutting across Nigeria\u2019s three umbrella tribes. While Mr Tinubu represented the Yoruba, Peter Obi the Igbo, and Atiku Abubakar the Fulani\/Hausa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
