During the 66th Grammy Awards ceremony in Feb. 2024, Nigerian artiste David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, had his hopes dashed as he lost all three categories<\/a> where his songs were nominated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Oct. 5, 2024, a Facebook<\/a> user, Joe Igbokwe<\/a>, posted a picture of Davido with American rapper and record executive Sean Combs, known as P. Diddy. The user mentioned that Davido said he was not a winner at the Grammy Awards because he failed to honour P. Diddy\u2019s party invitation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the caption attached to the post, the Facebook user said that Davido made this statement while explaining why he could not win the famous Grammy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI turned down P Diddy’s party invitation twice and lost the Grammy twice despite arriving first at the award venue. My colleagues visited him, won the Grammy and became African giants,\u201d the claimant wrote. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, the post had garnered about ten comments, 16 shares, and zero likes on the social media application. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA checks show that the post has been shared by multiple application users, as seen here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While some people believed the claim to be accurate, others thought otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Facebook user, Atanda Quadri, wrote, \u201cI am proud of you, OBO. I appreciate those who achieve outstanding success in their careers, and you are one of them.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Queen Onwugbalu said: \u201cHe is talking rubbish.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another user, Nnaemeka Nwachukwu, queried, \u201cDid he say it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the post\u2019s potential to cause harm, DUBAWA decided to verify the claim to set the record straight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA noticed grammatical and spelling errors in the caption, which is unusual in Davido’s write-ups. For instance, a proper noun in the sentence \u201cP. Diddy\u201d was not well capitalized, \u201cinvitation\u201d was spelt as \u201cinvitstion,\u201d and there are unnecessary spaces before punctuation marks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, DUBAWA visited and combed Davido’s social media accounts on X<\/a>, Instagram<\/a>, and Facebook<\/a> but could not find any supporting information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also conducted a keyword search on the claim to see if the claim was made at an event or interview but found no article by credible outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA emailed Mr Davido\u2019s business email to get his comments on the claim, but he has not responded as of press time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
