DUBAWA\u2019s research shows that the attached picture has been altered to represent a false narrative, and the claim has been recycled.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Full Text&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, there has been a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.codastory.com\/rewriting-history\/nigeria-presidential-election-tribalism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spurring ethnic feud<\/a> among the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria across different social media platforms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amidst this, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/1099916710\/posts\/pfbid02x4jvHKevTvMBob41449erofrberrP2SUwhm39orPLkDznzu1k81NBXQYpnz9omjkl\/?mibextid=WC7FNe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> user, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/1099916710\/posts\/pfbid02x4jvHKevTvMBob41449erofrberrP2SUwhm39orPLkDznzu1k81NBXQYpnz9omjkl\/?mibextid=WC7FNe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferdinand Azi<\/a>, on Sept. 30, 2024, asserted that the incumbent Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma, has approved free marriages between Imo State indigenes and Fulani settlers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Attached to the post is a national daily newspaper, This Day, which mentions that a N1 million fine would be imposed on any resident who fails to abide by the law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When DUBAWA viewed the post, it had over 14 comments, five likes, and one share.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA noticed that many X and Facebook users shared the post. Why didn&#8217;t he start with his daughter?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another user, Ifeanyi Okoh, said: \u201cI do not believe this news. I know that Uzodinma is actually a stooge, but going to this extent is unthinkable.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe need to hear from Imo People too!\u201d John Kalu wrote.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The need to curb potential misinformation in such a sensitive assertion led DUBAWA to verify this one.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Verification&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA subjected the picture to Google Reverse Image Search, which led us to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisdaylive.com\/index.php\/2021\/08\/28\/fake-digital-edition-of-thisday-friday-27-august-2021-in-circulation-on-social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This Day<\/a> report published in August 2021, in which the media platform debunked the claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report showed that the front page of the newspaper was changed from the original headline, \u201cBuhari elated as NNPC breaks jinx, declared N287bn profit, first in 44 years,\u201d to \u201cShocking: Uzodinma declares free marriage between Fulani settlers and Imo ladies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, we scoured credible media reports and found that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/fake-news-alert-thisday-debunks-cover-story-on-uzodimma-declaring-free-marriage\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TheCable<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/factcheck.afp.com\/doc.afp.com.9M24ND\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agence France-Presse<\/a> (AFP) reported the debunk made by This Day in 2021.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA\u2019s investigation showed that the claim was unfounded and misleading.
