The news feeds of Facebook users in Liberia were flooded with information that Liberia\u2019s former traditional chief, Zanzan Karwor, was dead<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Karwor was the former head of the National Traditional Council of Chiefs and Elders of Liberia. The news went viral<\/a> during the first working week of this month after multiple social media users took to Facebook, claiming that the chief died out of frustration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some<\/a> are quoted as saying, \u201cSad news: Zanzan Karwor is dead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA verified the viral news due to its potential to mislead and cause fear and panic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA spoke with the family of Zanzan Karwor to ascertain the information. In response, the third son of the chief, Philip Karwor, said, \u201cMy father is not dead.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated that his father had been sick for over a month and had been at the hospital receiving treatment and was later discharged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said, \u201cIt makes me feel bad hearing that my father is dead while he is still living.\u201d Philip added. \u201cI\u2019m asking everyone carrying this false information to take their posts down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
