With days to the ensuing Nimba senatorial by-election, some candidates assembled in Sanniquellie, Nimba\u2019s capital, to debate with other aspirants and share their visions with the voters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making his presentation about the economic development of Liberia, Matenokay Tingban<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

said Liberians are deprived of the country’s resources.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said Nimba has the \u2018biggest iron ore mine in the country,\u2019 but the county is still underdeveloped. He made the statement from 1:14:19 to 1:14:22 of the debate<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to Tingban\u2019s statement, Torbor Farngalo<\/a> asserted that Tingban is incorrect, claiming that \u201cBong Mines has the largest iron ore deposit in the country.\u201d He can be heard from 1:34:23 to 1:34:38<\/a>.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA decided to verify the claim spawned by the controversy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA contacted the Ministry of Mines and Energy<\/a> to verify the information. The Ministry of Mines and Energy is the institution that manages Liberia\u2019s natural resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, Minister Wilmot Paye<\/a>, in charge of Mines and Energy, said, \u201cNo, Bong Mines is certainly not the biggest,\u201d Paye said. \u201cThe largest is the Nimba Iron Ore Mine, which ArcelorMittal is operating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
