The government of former President George Weah has been accused of ruining Liberia’s international image. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his May 2, 2025, appearance as a guest on an afternoon show on OK FM, Kansualism Kansuah<\/a>, a steward of the ruling Unity Party establishment, said the Weah administration was unable to meet its foreign obligations, which he said gave the country a very disdainful image internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the host, Trokon Wrepue<\/a>, asked about some of the missteps of the former ruling establishment, Kansuah reacted that Weah could not attract any foreign direct investments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said, \u201cThere was no foreign direct investment in Weah\u2019s six years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is heard from 13:18 to 13:25 of the 53-minute offline show. DUBAWA, however, accessed the interview<\/a> to verify the information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the economic ramifications this could mean for the Liberian economy, DUBAWA probed the truth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA visited the National Investment Commission’s<\/a> head office to inquire about Liberia\u2019s foreign direct investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NIC is the government\u2019s agency responsible for investment promotion, generation, and facilitation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commission handed DUBAWA a one-page report on Liberia’s foreign direct investment from 2017 to 2024 through its Investment Promotion Officer, Christiana Yorgbor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data shows a US$130 million foreign direct investment in 2018, the year Weah took office as president of Liberia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in 2019, the investment dropped to US$90 million, but by 2020, it had sharply increased to  US$740 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the fourth year of Weah\u2019s tenure, the investment dropped again by US$540 million, and by 2022, it surged to US$960 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the last year of his administration, Weah attracted US$740 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
