President Bola Tinubu has repeatedly stated<\/a> that his administration inherited a near-empty treasury from the former President, Late Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s administration. In May 2025, he told the same narrative during his state visit to Anambra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two months later, a statement posed as Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano\u2019s response to Tinubu\u2019s assertion, began to make the rounds on Facebook. The statement disagrees with Tinubu\u2019s claim and criticises the president for extravagant spending on vehicles, renovations, and allowances for top officials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several users, including Abdulbarak Mubarak<\/a>, Muazu Mohammed<\/a>, Lissa TV<\/a>, Plan-B TV<\/a>, and Mary Idoniboye<\/a>, widely shared the statement, with the Emir\u2019s picture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Emir Sanusi has a history of criticising<\/a> the Tinubu-led administration, DUBAWA has debunked viral statements attributed to famous individuals<\/a> as false in the past. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We conducted this verification because of the nature of the claim, the personalities involved, and the likelihood of its falsehood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We reviewed Emir Sanusi\u2019s active social media accounts but found no written statements of this nature or anywhere he publicly made them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also conducted keyword searches on Google but found no report of this nature in the media. Instead, search results led us to an Aug. 4, 2024, X post<\/a> where a musician, Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy, posted this exact statement on his handle, confirming it had nothing to do with Emir Sanusi. BusinessDay also published<\/a> this, attributing it to Charly Boy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
