The footage showed Obi addressing people when he supposedly said he pulled 439 million people out of poverty. Ajetunmobi wrote in the caption that Obi claimed in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of September 3, 2025, the video has garnered over 465,500 views, 815 reactions, and 825 comments. Two hundred and twenty-five accounts bookmarked the post, which amassed 618 reposts within the timeframe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Different Facebook users also shared the claim <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/16f9A8fQzf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/14GKcHc1F5o\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/1FK2MRg8eo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, where it amassed thousands of views.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elton Onwu, a Facebook user, said, \u201cThis is no longer politics. I wonder what this man drinks to tell such lies.\u201d He also urged viewers to share the post widely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flex Kempes, another Facebook user, expressed surprise at the quoted data. He said, \u201cHow many [are we in] this country since he pulled 439 million people out of poverty as the Governor of Anambra State?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA observed that reactions doubting Obi\u2019s credibility dominated the comment sections across the posts identified. We fact-checked the video to authenticate the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Verification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Drawing a cue from Ajetunmobi\u2019s caption, DUBAWA used reverse image search to trace the video\u2019s source for the complete version. We found a more extended video version on Ohamadike TV\u2019s Facebook page. Obi, the then-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), spoke at an event with Northern Nigerians ahead of the 2023 general elections.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/reel\/518048186831587\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">56-second video<\/a>, Obi discussed how China, India, and Vietnam had lifted millions out of poverty through<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/millennium-development-goals-(mdgs)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Millennium Development Goals<\/a> (MDGs) programs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between 0.10 seconds and 0.23 seconds, Obi said, \u201cIt was MDGs that China included in their development agenda and was able to pull 439 million people out of poverty. It was MDGs that India incorporated into their development agenda, and they were able to pull 269 million people out of poverty.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The particular altered video now recirculating was cut between 0.13 and 0.16 seconds, where \u201cand\u201d was misrepresented as \u201cI\u201d in the viral claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA used keyword search and discovered the message was from a one-hour <a href=\"https:\/\/labourparty.com.ng\/peter-obis-speech-today-in-kaduna-at-the-arewa-joint-committee-interactive-session\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interactive session<\/a> with northern Nigerian leaders.
