The incident surrounding the image happened in 2024 among friends, for faking a kidnap in Lagos State, and not siblings in Anambra State as claimed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Full Text<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As ethnic segregation continues to thrive on social media, ardent supporters of respective ethnic groups are recycling old, unrelated narratives and media to foster hate speech and bigotry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given this existing trend, an X user, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/chukwudi_eze00\/status\/1960339105574731917?t=YlYWr_iCSUD2p8wK-mXcGA&amp;s=1\">@Chukwudi_ezeoo<\/a>, shared an <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/chukwudi_eze00\/status\/1960339105574731917?t=YlYWr_iCSUD2p8wK-mXcGA&amp;s=1\">image<\/a> claiming the individuals were four siblings apprehended for kidnapping and killing their father in the Southeast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The post shared on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, has a caption that reads, \u201cThree sisters from Anambra state and their brother were arrested for kidnapping and killing their father. Igbo youth are becoming more barbaric.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, it had generated over 83,000 views and accumulated 1,000 likes, 406 reposts, 104 bookmarks, and 60 quotes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA examined the comment section and noticed many comments aligned with the post\u2019s veracity. A few sceptics consulted Grok, but they were unable to verify independently. Meanwhile, some other X users commended the claimant for courageously posting the incident despite sharing an identical cultural background with the culprits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf there are Ibos like you, believe me, things will get better for the Ibos,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/beyond70731\/status\/1960415431170417100?t=4el6pdigunLM-qRW0QeASw&amp;s=19\">@Beyond70731<\/a> commented<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is something wrong with that Anambra State from the spiritual realm,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/otomporo8701\/status\/1960699672110027054?t=ytlC52YoZqWy_MQQcVuZWA&amp;s=19\">@Otomporo8701<\/a> wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHandiwork of a bad mother. Their mother must have engineered them into doing this,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ArinzePesky\/status\/1960702442779144677?t=JCAw2IZ0E5vhcJG3KhFFNw&amp;s=19\">@ArinzePesky<\/a> opined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar claims were shared on Facebook, as seen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1MgixZLRQn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1B9cKkouwb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to the growing ethnic-related misinformation that has crowded the media space, DUBAWA carried out this verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Verification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA ran an extensive keyword search to confirm the veracity of such information but found no similar report by credible media outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We further subjected the shared image to a Google Reverse Image Search. The result led us to a similar image shared alongside some reports in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/punchng.com\/four-arrested-for-faking-abduction-in-lagos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Punch<\/a> publication on March 23, 2024, the image depicts the arrest of people who staged the abduction of a lady identified as Agnes Ogbeh in Lagos State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the same report, those arrested include Margaret Itodo (25), Esther Anyanwu (24), Anthony Chinakwe (24), and the alleged victim, Agnes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Mar. 19, 2024, Agnes, an Akure resident, had reportedly travelled to Lagos and was kidnapped there. The \u2018kidnappers\u2019 had sent a video of her and one other person supposedly held captive to Agnes\u2019 family, demanding a ransom of N5 million.
