Hajj fare is the money paid by intending pilgrims to the Holy Land of Saudi Arabia. The fare covers their transportation, feeding, accommodation, visa, uniforms and bags.<\/p>\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Nigeria, the fee is usually agreed upon by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). Each year, NAHCON pegs an amount to be paid by states which they must not reduce. Most states usually subsidise the hajj fare making their citizens pay less while they complete it for them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The official hajj fare placed for states in 2019 is N1,500,000 inclusive of $800 BTA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Friday, May 24th 2019, the \u00a0Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Muslim Welfare Board, Awwal Abdullahi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailytrust.com.ng\/plateaus-hajj-fare-among-lowest.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> its 2019 official hajj fare is the lowest in the Northern states except Adamawa which is slightly lower than that of Plateau <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>VERIFICATION OF CLAIM:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Nation Fact check searched and compared the hajj fare of 15 Northern states including the FCT and discovered that Plateau state was among the lowest but definitely not the second lowest. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hajj fares of the 15 Northern states from the lowest fare to the highest fare include:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/m.guardian.ng\/news\/adamawa-pilgrims-to-pay-least-hajj-fare-executive-secretary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adamawa <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">N1,510,000; <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hajjreporters.com\/just-in-niger-state-announces-2019-hajj-fare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Niger <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; N1,513,650; <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/katsinapost.com.ng\/2019\/05\/19\/katsina-state-pilgrims-welfare-board-approves-n1-5m-as-2019-hajj-fare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Katsina<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; N1,540,428; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenationonlineng.net\/kaduna-announces-n1-549m-as-2019-hajj-fare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kaduna<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; N1,549,297; a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailytrust.com.ng\/2019-hajj-fct-releases-approved-hajj-fare.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FCT<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; N1,548,625.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although t<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he Hajj fare for four northern states, Benue, Zamfara, Borno and Gombe were not seen, from the above list Plateau State cannot be seen as the second lowest and even if the other state figures are included, it will still not be the lowest!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For further clarification, we reached out to the\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chief Information Officer of the Niger state Pilgrims Welfare Board, Hassana Isah who confirmed the Hajj fee for Plateau State and also stated that Hajj prices vary from state to state because of a number of factors including distance of airports to and from Saudi Arabia and the proximity of the negotiated hotel accommodation in Makkah to Masjidil Haram (Holy Mosque).<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/><hr \/><hr \/>\n<p><i>This fact-check was done by a Dubawa Fact-checking Fellow in collaboration with The Nation, the second-most-read newspaper in Nigeria according to a 2011 report by The Advertisers&#8217;
