Burkina Faso and Ibrahim Traor\u00e9 have recently become the subject<\/a> of many conversations across social media platforms and news reports. While some of the topics<\/a> are neutral, there have been glaring instances where Nigeria<\/a> has been blamed for alleged interference, even though it has no involvement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a recent Facebook post, @Africa News Facts <\/a>claimed that all African countries can now visit Burkina Faso <\/a>without a visa requirement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The full caption to the post read: \u201cBurkina Faso opens borders for Africans. Burkina Faso has removed visa requirements for all African nationals. Citizens from across the continent can now enter the country without a visa, making travel easier for all African passport holders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sept. 17, 2025,  when the post was viewed, it had 79,000 likes, 4,500 comments, and over 2,000 shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Users, however, had various things to say in the comments, and we noted some.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

@MarkoTong Dihany <\/a>wondered aloud, \u201cHow will the other 54 States of Africa feel now since all their citizens will be going to Burkina Faso without a visa? Burkina Faso is the real capital of Africa now in the real sense, not Addis Ababa.\u201d
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another user, @Kerison Munyorwi<\/a>, celebrated the policy, remarking, \u201cThat’s an economic boom in Burkina and Africa at large! We’re separated by this visa thing! Now we’re going to connect with each other again. Unity is power!\u201d

@Mena Ajio <\/a>observed: \u201cMeanwhile, somewhere else, some are fighting over borderlines. May all these types of leaders be everywhere in Africa and the world.\u201d

DUBAWA observed that many users appeared to believe the claim, and any inaccuracy carries a real risk of misleading millions. This prompted us to verify the details before the narrative spreads unchecked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA conducted a keyword search on the policy and quickly found several credible updates that told a different story from the Facebook claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One key source was a report from Visas News<\/a> on the Burkina Faso Council of Ministers\u2019 meeting of Sept. 11, 2025. The government approved a plan to scrap visa fees for citizens of all African countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Council\u2019s statement read, \u201cNo national from the continent will have to pay to obtain an entry visa for Burkina Faso.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The release explained that removing the fee would help boost tourism, showcase Burkinabe culture and raise the country\u2019s profile abroad. According to the report, after the meeting, the Minister of Security and Police Commissioner, Mahamadou Sana, said the step reflects the pan-African vision of Head of State Ibrahim Traore and shows Burkina Faso\u2019s resolve to strengthen historic ties with other African nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Official clarification shows that \u201cfree\u201d only covers the visa cost after approval. African travellers must still apply through the country\u2019s electronic visa portal, meet the stated requirements, and obtain approval before entry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The measure is to promote free movement<\/a> and continental integration. However, as of Sept. 12, 2025, the official portal<\/a> still lists processing fees, and the government has not announced a start date for the new policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
