He, however, did not <wbr \/>provide\u00a0any\u00a0statistics\u00a0about\u00a0<wbr \/>the state\u2019s debt profile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>VERIFICATION OF THE CLAIM:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A check on the websites of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmo.gov.ng\/debt-profile\/sub-national-debts\/2757-states-and-fct-domestic-debt-stock-as-at-december-31-2018\/file\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Debt Management Office<\/a> (DMO), the official institution that coordinates the <wbr \/>management of Nigeria\u2019s entire debt, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/nigerianstat.gov.ng\/elibrary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Bureau of Statistics<\/a> (NBS), the agency that provides official statistics on all the Mi<wbr \/>nistries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria, reveals that as at Decemb<wbr \/>er 31, 2018, Gombe State&#8217;s <wbr \/>domestic debt was N63,337,930,<wbr \/>142.60 (N63 billion); while the <wbr \/>external debt was $37,406.069.<wbr \/>57 ($37 million), which translates to N11,483,575,432.<wbr \/>00 (N11 billion).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[<em>To get the naira value of <wbr \/>the\u00a0external\u00a0debt,\u00a0Gombe\u00a0<wbr \/>state&#8217;s external debt was multip<wbr \/>lied\u00a0by\u00a0N307,\u00a0the\u00a0official\u00a0<wbr \/>exchange\u00a0rate\u00a0of\u00a0a\u00a0dollar\u00a0to\u00a0<wbr \/>naira as at December 31, 2018.<\/em>]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the domestic debt of N63 billion\u00a0is added to\u00a0<wbr \/>the external debt of N11billion,\u00a0<wbr \/>the result is N74,821,687,<wbr \/>574.60 (N74 billion); a figure which is less than <wbr \/>the\u00a0N110\u00a0billion\u00a0the\u00a0transitio<wbr \/>n\u00a0committee\u00a0claimed\u00a0is\u00a0Gombe\u00a0<wbr \/>State\u2019s debt. This\u00a0therefore\u00a0<wbr \/>means\u00a0that\u00a0the\u00a0claim\u00a0that\u00a0<wbr \/>Gombe State debt is N110 billion as <wbr \/>at December 31, 2018 is FALSE.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When the Secretary of the Tr<wbr \/>ansition Committee, Zubairu Umar\u00a0was\u00a0contacted\u00a0to\u00a0provide\u00a0co<wbr \/>ncrete evidence about how they arrived at the state\u2019s debt, <wbr \/>he\u00a0said\u00a0the\u00a0committee\u00a0relied\u00a0<wbr \/>on undisclosed &#8220;sources&#8221;, and will provide us with more information in due course.
