We also went beyond Nigeria\u2019s borders to provide context for matters of public interest.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some of the claims we fact-checked:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sierra Leonean footballer Momoh I. Kamara won the CAF Young African Player of the Year 2025 award<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Facebook user, \u201cSocialist Thullah,\u201d shared a post claiming that Sierra Leone\u2019s Momoh Kamara had won the CAF Young African Player of the Year 2025 award. The post featured Kamara\u2019s image and congratulatory text, referencing President Julius Maada Bio\u2019s commitment to investing in Sierra Leonean football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our <a href=\"http:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/misleading-momoh-kamara-was-nominated-but-not-winner-of-2025-caf-young-player-award\/\">findings<\/a> and review of credible sports sources and official CAF channels shows that Momoh I. Kamara has only been nominated for the award, not declared the winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Obasanjo claim Igbos control Lagos through ownership and investment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An Instagram post alleged that former President Olusegun Obasanjo said the Igbos do not need to fight the Yorubas to \u201cwin Lagos,\u201d as most Yorubas live in Igbo-owned houses. The post also claimed that Lagos would be \u201cempty overnight\u201d if Igbos withdrew their support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When DUBAWA <a href=\"http:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/did-obasanjo-claim-igbos-control-lagos-through-ownership-and-investment\/\">checked<\/a>, we saw that no credible report or statement supports the claim.&nbsp; The link attached to the post redirects to random, unrelated Facebook pages.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, Domain checks also show it is from a newly registered, unverified site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bread increase arthritis pain<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Facebook user claimed that bread causes arthritis, describing the two as \u201clovers.\u201d The self-acclaimed doctor, who has over 491,000 followers, wrote, \u201cBread and arthritis are lovers. Wheat feeds inflammation. Inflammation attacks joints. Remove bread and watch the pain fade. It\u2019s not old age. It\u2019s your breakfast\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA <a href=\"http:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/does-bread-increase-arthritis-pain\/\">reviewed<\/a> using expert opinions and studies, and we saw that bread does not cause arthritis, but components like gluten and refined carbs in certain breads may exacerbate joint inflammation in sensitive individuals or those with autoimmune arthritis. To manage arthritis, avoiding or limiting these foods may help reduce symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>TikTok audio featuring Trump, Traor\u00e9 commenting on Africa\u2019s independence<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A viral TikTok audio claims to feature U.S. President Donald Trump and Burkina Faso\u2019s leader, Captain Ibrahim Traor\u00e9, making statements about Africa\u2019s independence and Burkina Faso\u2019s relationship with the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We <a href=\"http:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/tiktok-audio-featuring-trump-traore-commenting-on-africas-independence-ai-generated\/\">analysed<\/a> the video and saw that there is no evidence that Donald Trump or Ibrahim Traor\u00e9 made the statements circulating in the viral audio. The audio uses AI-generated voices to imitate both leaders and spread misinformation. Therefore, the claim is false.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cooking with alcohol is healthy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Facebook user identified as Ewere Obi uploaded a video showing her preparing food with several brands of alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA <a href=\"http:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/is-cooking-with-alcohol-healthy\/\">checked<\/a> and saw that cooking with alcohol may improve the taste and aroma of food, but it is not without health risks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scientific evidence shows that alcohol is never entirely removed through heat, and consuming such meals exposes the body to residual amounts that may strain vital organs over time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the latest edition of DUBAWA\u2019s weekly round-up, we covered controversial issues from sport, politics, and health that went viral in Nigeria.
