Also, the Abia State governor\u2019s aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma, debunked the claim.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Full Text<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest demolition exercise by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration at the <a href=\"https:\/\/punchng.com\/lagos-begins-demolition-of-illegal-buildings-at-trade-fair-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trade Fair Complex<\/a> in Lagos State generated <a href=\"https:\/\/punchng.com\/trade-fair-demolition-traders-count-losses-decry-lack-of-notice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">controversial reactions<\/a> across the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the 2023 General Elections, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PeterObi\/status\/1973095882355540179?t=acOVXOu2bv21BzUKYYoHGw&amp;s=19\">said<\/a> the action was unjust and economically destructive. Victor Umeh, the senator representing Anambra Central senatorial district, also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/lagos-trade-fair-demolition-unlawful-says-victor-umeh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">condemned<\/a> the action, saying that the demolition was illegal and a breach of jurisdiction on Federal lands in the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the crisis remains unsettled, a Facebook user, Maduka Ogwueleka, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/175w4bi974\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> that Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, threatened to disassociate from Lagos State. Otti allegedly promised to develop Abia state beyond imagination, setting a high standard to divert economic activities from Lagos to Abia state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the claim, Otti said, \u201cI have no business with Lagos, I\u2019m not competing with Lagos. My competition is with China and Dubai. By the time I\u2019m done with Aba, Lagos will look like a village.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of Oct. 6, 2025, the post has garnered over 32,000 reactions, 7,400 comments, and 1,800 reshares since the Facebook user posted it on Oct. 3, 2025. We also found other Facebook users sharing the post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/16Wq76Kohc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1BhpsPTuf7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/162wfV7c4k\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1GhoWoWiPZ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DUBAWA identified many Facebook users in the comment section who believed the governor made such a statement. One Facebook user, Justice Gentlej, described Otti as his most trusted governor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Okwuka Oluchi, another Facebook user, wrote, \u201cThat&#8217;s my governor talking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, some users disputed the claim. Ekene Kingsley, who called the poster a liar, said, \u201cHe never said this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Princess Amadi, another user, said, \u201cUnder eight years or do you have more than eight years to stay in office? Just asking, no insults please.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The virality of the claim and its implications on the relationship between the two states prompted DUBAWA to verify the information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Verification&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We analysed Otti&#8217;s public appearances since the demolition to identify any event where the statement was made. However, we found none, as of Oct. 8, 2025. We also used keyword search to verify if the governor made such a statement in a press release, but we could not find any.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, the fact that no credible media organisation reported the said statement was a red flag for DUBAWA.
