Full Text <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The United States (US) recently named<\/a> Nigeria as a Country of \u201cParticular Concern\u201d after its President, Donald Trump, expressed concern<\/a> over the alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria. He described it as an existential threat to Christianity in the West African nation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this, social media users like Somto Okonkwo (@General_Somto) on X<\/a>  began circulating a video allegedly showing President Bola Tinubu responding to the US President over the genocide claims. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the one-minute video, Tinubu could be heard addressing citizens about his administration\u2019s economic plans.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have met our targets of revenue for the whole year, and we met it in August. I received it this morning. If non-oil revenue is doing well, then I have no fear of whatever Trump is doing on the other side,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video, which has since gone viral, as of Nov. 2, 2025, garnered a total of 212,400 views, 2,400 likes, 1,100 reposts, and 833 comments. The post can also be found on Instagram<\/a>, Facebook<\/a> (archived link<\/a>), here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sensitive nature of this claim, its virality, and the possibility of it sparking religious and political tensions made DUBAWA fact-check it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To authenticate the claim, we conducted a keyword search to find any information about the president\u2019s response. We have found that no credible media outlet has reported this development so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only response reported was the press statements<\/a> released by the President through his X handle<\/a>. In his statement, the government rejected the claims of intolerance, reaffirming its commitment to democracy and freedom of religion. The president noted that he is ready to collaborate with the US to deepen understanding and cooperation on protecting communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We then conducted a reverse image search on Google Lens using a fragment of the video. This led us to the same clip posted by Channels Television on YouTube<\/a> on Sept. 2, 2025. This shows that the video had been online for two months before Trump\u2019s comment, so it is not a reaction to Trump\u2019s genocide comment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the video, Tinubu bragged that his administration has met its revenue target for the year, primarily from the non-oil sector. The President also stated that the country is stabilised and the government no longer borrows money from domestic banks, adding that what the administration needs is to create jobs for the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other media outlets, including Vanguard<\/a>, News Central TV<\/a>, The Guardian<\/a>, and Arise TV,<\/a> also reported this news in September 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
