The Nigerian internet space has been filled with several issues, but the outrage on the ongoing \u201cChristian genocide\u201d in Nigeria topped the list.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DUBAWA verified several claims around the United States President Donald Trump\u2019s public pronouncement to invade Nigeria with troops to curb terrorism, the ongoing Anambra State election, and other related matters.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Below are some of the major claims we verified last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prior to the kick-off of the Anambra gubernatorial election, Nollywood actress Chioma Ifemeludike shared her campaign pictures on Instagram. Along with the photographs, she urged the public to vote for her at the polls on Nov. 8, 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The post drew many reactions from other Facebook users who questioned whether she is a legitimate candidate for the gubernatorial election. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
DUBAWA checked the Independent National Electoral Commission\u2019s (INEC) website<\/a>, which shows that the African Action Congress (AAC) is among the 16 political parties approved to field candidates in the Anambra election. INEC\u2019s list also shows that Chioma is the flagbearer for the AAC with Mgbemena Ikechukwu as her running mate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n DUBAWA<\/a> also published the list of approved political parties and their candidates, including AAC and its flagbearer, Chioma. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Read more here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Public sentiments<\/a> arose when the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration demolished the Trade Fair Complex<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Against this backdrop, a Facebook user, Maduka Ogwueleka<\/a>, claimed that the Abia State governor, Alex Otti, threatened to disassociate from Lagos State and further develop Abia State to promote economic activities within the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n DUBAWA checked the governor Otti\u2019s public appearances since the demolition and found no statement by the governor related to the demolition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Besides, no credible news outlet reported the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n DUBAWA also found a press release<\/a> made public by the governor\u2019s aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma, debunking the viral claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Read more here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The United States President Donald Trump labelled<\/a> Nigeria as a country of \u201cParticular Concern\u201d following the outcry about Christian genocide in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Against this background, an X user, @General_Somto<\/a>, circulated a video allegedly showing President Bola Tinubu responding to the US president over the genocide claims. <\/p>\n\n\n\n President Tinubu allegedly stated that his administration has met its revenue targets for the whole year, and if non-oil revenue is doing well, he is not afraid of whatever Trump is doing on the other side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n DUBAWA found no credible news outlet reported this comment and the only response that Tinubu released was a press statement<\/a> via his X<\/a> handle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In the statement, the government rejected allegations of intolerance and reaffirmed its commitment to democracy and freedom of religion. He also stated that he is ready to partner with the US to establish understanding and cooperation on protecting communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We traced the video to YouTube<\/a>, where it was shared on Sept. 2, 2025. This means that the video had been online two months before Trump\u2019s comment so this was not a reaction to his genocide comment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Read more here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After Trump designated<\/a> Nigeria a \u201cCountry of particular concern,\u201d a popular social media influencer and self-acclaimed activist, Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, shared<\/a> a video of Trump vowing to send US troops to Nigeria, destroy Boko Haram, and remove Bola Tinubu from being Nigeria\u2019s president. <\/p>\n\n\n\n DUBAWA discovered the video had been tampered with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Also, international news outlets such as the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)<\/a> reported that the US notified the United States Department of War to prepare for \u201cpossible action.\u201d Reuters<\/a> also reported that there could be US troops in Nigeria. However, none of them reported Trump threatening to remove the Nigerian president. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Read more here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The incumbent governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, is seeking re-election in the 2025 Anambra gubernatorial election. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Against this background, The Peoples Gazette, via a now-deleted report<\/a>, published conversations surrounding the Solution General Hospital in Anaku, Ayamelum, which the governor commissioned.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n While some social media users claimed the project was not functional, others circulated videos<\/a> asserting that the facility was locked and health workers were not available.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n DUBAWA visited the facility on Nov. 5, 2025, and noticed that activities were ongoing in the hospital. We also took videos and photographs of health personnel in the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
