Cameroon\u2019s 92-year-old president, Paul Biya, was recently declared<\/a> the winner of the country\u2019s presidential election by the Constitutional Council, securing 53.66% of the vote for an eighth term in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the announcement, a Facebook user identified as Blatta Blatta<\/strong><\/a> shared a publication link<\/a> alleging that Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai had \u201cdenounced the Cameroonian election as a \u2018fraudulent mockery of democracy\u2019\u201d and urged the African Union (AU) to suspend Cameroon from the bloc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The post was captioned \u201cBoakai has started interfering in another country\u2019s domestic affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the report, the claimant alleged that the comment by the Liberian president was contained in a statement \u201creleased by the Liberian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA decided to investigate the claim as part of its commitment to combating misinformation and disinformation, as well as to prevent a possible diplomatic row between Liberia and Cameroon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To verify the authenticity of the claim, DUBAWA first visited the Foreign Ministry’s pages, as the claimant had specifically cited them. The researcher reviewed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs\u2019 <\/strong>official Facebook page<\/a> and found two press releases contradicting the claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In paragraph 2 of an October 30, 2025, press release<\/a>, the Ministry said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, categorically rejects the article and states unequivocally that the Liberian President has neither made such comments about the Cameroonian elections nor has he called for Cameroon’s suspension from the AU or the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, in a follow-up release<\/a> on October 31, 2025, the Ministry confirmed that President Boakai had, in fact, sent congratulatory messages to newly elected and re-elected African leaders, including Cameroon\u2019s President Paul Biya:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has sent a message of congratulations to the newly elected and re-elected presidents across the African continent, including the president of Cameroon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The researcher also contacted Daniel Sando, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a telephone call with DUBAWA, Deputy Minister Sando dismissed the publication as \u201cseditious and misleading,\u201d adding that it does not reflect the position of the Liberian government. He further referred our researcher to the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for clarification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
