The Boakai-led government adopted<\/a> its ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) as the national development plan of Liberia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The acronym ARREST represents the government\u2019s six development drives. They include agribusiness, roads and infrastructure, rule of law and governance, education and human capital development, sanitation, and tourism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his appearance as a guest on a morning talk show, the Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs of the Ministry of Information was quizzed about the agriculture budget in the 2026 draft national budget. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel Sando<\/a> was asked why approximately $13 million was allocated to agriculture in the budget, given that it is a government priority. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his response, Sando said that many people mistakenly identify the Ministry of Agriculture’s budget with the agricultural sector’s budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, there are components of the agriculture sector in the country, and <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf $13 million was allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture in the draft budget, it does not suggest that it is the government\u2019s only intervention.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deputy minister explains that the agriculture sector is larger than the Ministry of Agriculture, naming the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) as one of its components.  He added that it is being funded separately outside of the US$13 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
