Verdict: False. No credible reports confirm US airstrikes in Kaduna State on Jan. 1, 2026, or any incident that led to damage to Sheikh Ahmad Gumi’s residence. Full TextA Facebook page, LAMBO GINI PROMOTION (archived here), on Jan. 1, 2026, published a post claiming that the United States launched massive airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in Kaduna State and that Sheikh Ahmad Gumi\u2019s house was destroyed in the process. The post reads in part, \u201cBREAKING NEWS: Massive U.S. Airstrikes On Terrorists’ Hideouts In Kaduna Currently Going On, Gumi\u2019s House Utterly Destroyed. Massive U.S. airstrikes on terrorist hideouts are currently going on in Kaduna. At least three terrorist camps have been bombed before the Nigerian military moved in to finish them off. Trump reportedly called it a New Year’s gift to terrorists.\u201d As of Jan. 1, 2026, the post has generated over 300 comments and 128 shares. We saw that most Facebook users welcomed and praised the move. Kolawole Paseda wrote, \u201cThank you so much, Mr President. God bless you richly, and God bless the United States of America.\u201d Prince Awofeso Rasheed Ololade commented, \u201cThe actions of the dreadful groups have had untold effects on the security, economic, and social landscapes of this country for several years. We should see US intervention as a blessing.\u201d Julius Emmanuel also wrote, \u201cWOW ooh this is truly good news of the year so far.\u201d We discovered that similar claims were shared on Instagram here, and other Facebook accounts here and here. DUBAWA decided to verify the claim due to its security implications and because a similar US military action was reported in Nigeria on December 25, 2025. Verification DUBAWA conducted keyword searches using combinations of Kaduna State, US airstrike, Trump, and terrorists. The results showed no credible evidence that the US bombed Kaduna State or that President Donald Trump ordered such an operation on Jan. 1, 2026. Given the gravity of the claim, such an attack would have attracted widespread coverage from local and international mainstream media. However, we found nothing of the sort. DUBAWA also checked the official social media handles of the US President Donald Trump and found no statement or post referencing airstrikes in Kaduna or anywhere else in Nigeria on that date. Further checks on the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Nigeria\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also revealed no confirmation or announcement of a US military operation in Kaduna State. Findings show that recent US airstrikes in Nigeria occurred between Dec. 25 and 26, 2025, targeting ISIS-linked terrorist camps in northwestern states, particularly Sokoto State, not Kaduna. These operations were reportedly carried out with the approval of the Nigerian government and involved drone strikes on terrorist hideouts in areas such as Tangaza and Bauni Forest. We also searched Sheikh Ahmad Gumi’s Facebook page on Thursday, January 1, 2026, but found no posts or activity confirming or suggesting the destruction of his home.
