For years, Nigeria has continued<\/a> to face security issues with frequent kidnapping and killing. As insecurity intensifies, different opinions have emerged on social media, with some users accusing foreign countries of sponsoring and financing terrorism in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Against this backdrop, a Facebook<\/a> user, Mary Efombruh, on Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, shared a five-minute-long broadcast<\/a> by Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), accusing Turkey of supplying ammunition to Boko Haram and sponsoring terrorism in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCBN reporter links Turkey to controversial arms routes feeding conflicts in Africa, including the weapons that keep showing up in Nigeria’s Boko Haram war,\u201d part of the video’s caption read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first part of the video, a CBN broadcaster can be seen reporting an allegation by an Egyptian television station accusing Turkey of sponsoring terrorism in Africa, particularly the Boko Haram in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the other parts feature a man identified as a Middle East journalist sharing his opinion about the issue raised by the broadcaster at the beginning of the clip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAn Egyptian television news programme says that Turkey is clearly a terrorist state with a broad reach. It reports that Turkey is supplying weapons to the terrorist group Boko Haram in Nigeria. Ten TV host Nashot AL Delhi reported on a leak confirming an intercepted phone call from a few years back, confirming the action he reported in part\u2026\u201d the broadcaster said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday’s leak confirms without a doubt that Erdogan, his state, his government, and his party are transferring weapons from Turkey to Nigeria and to the Boko Haram organisation,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, the video had generated over 3,000 likes, 946 comments, 501 bookmarks, and 3,200 reposts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysis of the comment section shows that most users accepted the video as recent and accused Gumi of a foreign alliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adefehinti Kayode <\/a>stated, \u201cGumi should be brought for questioning after naming Turkey as a potential helper.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another user, Chesa Mark, <\/a>wrote, “Now I understand why Gumi was asking the president to seek Turkish assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God’sgift Umet<\/a> added, \u201cThe same Turkey Gumi ordered the government to seek help from.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another Facebook post<\/a> also generated over 152 likes, 28 comments, and 489 reposts. Meanwhile, the same video was shared on X (here<\/a>, here<\/a>, here,<\/a> and here<\/a>) and other Facebook pages, here<\/a> and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gravity of the accusation and the engagement the posts generated led DUBAWA to carry out this verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA performed a Google Reverse image search on screenshots of the clip, leading us to a similar YouTube<\/a> version by the Christian Broadcast Network (CBN) on Nov. 14, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CBN YouTube video was captioned, \u201cEgyptian TV News report alleges Turkey supplying weapons to Nigeria’s Boko Haram.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigating further, we came across a publication<\/a> by CBN on that same day reporting the allegations by the Egyptian TV station accusing Turkey of sponsoring terrorism in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Nov. 26, 2019, Turkish Minute<\/a>, another media outlet, reported that the Nigerian Army is investigating the alleged Turkish support for terrorism and the Boko-Haram organisation in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, a Nigerian media outlet, Punch<\/a>, also reported the incident in 2019, stating that the Nigerian Army had ordered a temporary border closure, alongside other strategic measures, to tackle the illicit inflow of weapons into the country and address the issue. The same report was also uploaded on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We conducted a keyword search to determine if there have been any recent related developments. We came across a publication by the Nigerian Tribune<\/a> reporting that Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic cleric, has urged the Federal government to cut military ties with the United States and seek military assistance from Pakistan, Turkey, and China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Television Continental News<\/a> (TVC), Channels Television<\/a>, and Leadership Newspaper<\/a> also reported the same story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
