On Feb 3, 2026, suspected terrorists attacked<\/a> Woro, a Muslim-dominated community<\/a> in Kwara State. The attack, which happened a few days after the community rejected the preaching proposed by an ISIS-linked group, led to the killing of over 170 residents and the destruction of buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amid this onslaught, a Facebook user \u201cChinasa Nworu<\/a>\u201d (Archived here<\/a>) via a post shared on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, claimed that the controversial Islamic preacher, Ahmad Gumi, has advocated the acceptance of Sharia Law in Kwara State in a bid to maintain peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The caption reads, \u201cJust in: Kwara state should accept the sharia law for peace to reign ~ Sheikh Gumi.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, the video has generated over 1,100 likes, 705 comments, and has been reposted 733 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some users who commented on the post accepted the claim, largely because of their prior perception of the cleric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat a direct threat to all the Yoruba in Nigeria, it’s now open to everyone to see their intentions,\u201d Francis Uchenna<\/a> wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polok Calistus<\/a> said, \u201cThe owner of Nigeria has spoken.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another comment by Ani Moses<\/a> reads, “Kwara State is gone, Mazi Nnamdi told you about it before.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the significant engagement generated and the severity of the attributed statement, DUBAWA conducted this investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA conducted a keyword search on Google and found similar posts shared by other Facebook users here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We further checked whether any reports documented Gumi’s comments on the onslaught in Kwara State, but found no credible outlet that did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, we checked his official and frequently used Facebook<\/a> account but found no posts validating the claimant’s assertion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given his frequent call for the Nigerian government to initiate peaceful negotiations with terrorists rather than violent altercation, Gumi continues to be the subject of disinformation and misinformation linked to banditry in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
