In a related development, a TikTok user @otunba12026<\/a> shared an alleged Punch publication reporting that Nigerian business mogul Aliko Dangote has been detained over a financial scandal he divulged via a live broadcast. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the clip, Dangote reveals that while elites have been earning from undisclosed financial avenues, the average Nigerian works virtually all day and witnesses his income lose value. He attributed the situation to severe economic constraints. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He then disclosed what he called an \u201copportunity\u201d which has been made available for Nigerians. He said Nigerians can invest and earn a humongous amount of money by simply trading through a financial market system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor too long, elites have been earning from resources and financial instruments, while ordinary Nigerians work ten to 12 hours a day and watch their income lose value\u2026 Everything is becoming expensive\u2026Today I speak openly. As of Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, the post has garnered 3,122 likes, 87 comments, 490 bookmarks, and 2,911 shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While other TikTok users pointed out that the clip was generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI), some wanted more details about the alleged scheme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA professional fake news, this is so distracting,\u201d Mastersensephotography pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following comments suggesting the video is AI-generated, DUBAWA decided to verify the claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We conducted a keyword search for Dangote\u2019s alleged detention and found that no news outlet, including Punch, published any information about it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took a screengrab of the clip and subjected it to Google Reverse Image Search. It linked us to a similar clip uploaded to YouTube<\/a> in December 2025. In the video, Dangote pledged a N100 billion annual education fund to support 1,300,000 students in Nigeria. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Newsroom Ng<\/a> reported the development, noting that the programme aims to expand access to education and foster academic excellence across Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We submitted the clip to Truthscan<\/a>, which rated it \u201cfake\u201d with 89% AI content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
