During the early morning hours of March 11, 2026, Liberia\u2019s social media space  (Facebook) went abuzz with news of Guinean soldiers opening fire on Liberians in Liberia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news quickly spread like wildfire, as seen here,<\/a> here<\/a>, and here<\/a>, creating panic among Liberians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amongst all of these was a claim by former Montserrado County district #8 representative Acarous Moses Gray<\/a>, that, \u201cGuinean dissidents have opened fire on Liberian territory, and there are unconfirmed reports of two dead.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former representative took to his official Facebook page,<\/a> stating, \u201cMaximum provocation as Guinean dissidents have opened fire on Liberian territory and there is an unconfirmed report of two dead. No presence of Liberian security forces, as unarmed civilians braved the storm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This claim was also made on several other platforms, including two Liberian blogs, Shine Liberia <\/a>and Yekeh Kolubah<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did it start?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On March 2, 2026, <\/a>Liberians in Lofa County along the border with Guinea blew the whistle over the encroachment of some Guinean soldiers into Liberian territory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to some Liberians who were on the scene and spoke to Front Page Africa Newspaper,<\/a> the Guinean soldiers held them at gunpoint and seized most of their equipment.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was reported that the Guinea soldiers immediately hoisted their flag<\/a> in the area, indicating that the portion of land belonged to the Republic of Guinea  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the situation was brought under control following the visit of some senior Liberian government officials and the help of some locals on the grounds. This led to the immediate hoisting of the Liberian flag<\/a> within the same area.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 10, 2026, Guinean soldiers lowered their flag, and the Liberian flag remained flying in the same area. The next day, March 11, 2026, Guinea soldiers returned to the same area and started shooting at unarmed civilians in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA felt compelled to verify this claim, as it borders on national and international security and international diplomacy that involve the lives of citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In reaction to the incident, the government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Information, issued a statement confirming gunshots but denied reports that two people had died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement further urged citizens to stay calm as it handles the matter diplomatically. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe GOL is actively investigating a shooting incident at the border on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, that left a Liberian citizen injured. The injured citizen is in stable condition and responding to treatment. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are being investigated by members of the joint security on both sides.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The researcher then contacted sources in the countryside and eyewitnesses on the grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amara M. Kamara<\/a>, a Liberian who spoke with DUBAWA from Lofa County via messenger, confirmed that three persons were shot, but no one was discovered dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a chat with DUBAWA, Kamara said, \u201cWe have so far discovered three individuals being shot but not dead as reported.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, it was reported by a local media outlet in the county, Voice of Lofa<\/a>, that three unarmed Liberians were shot by Guinean soldiers, and those victims are seeking medical treatment at a local clinic in the area<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of those injured as a result of the shooting has been identified as a 44-year-old civilian, Edward Lebbie, and is currently being treated at the Foya Boma Hospital, Foy District, Lofa County, the Voice of Lofa<\/a>, and Verity news<\/a>, again reported.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conclusion <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
