For more than two decades, Plateau State in Nigeria\u2019s Middle Belt has continued<\/a> to experience recurring violence, where these cycles have repeatedly claimed lives and displaced communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, Mar. 29, 2026, gunmen attacked the Gari Ya Waye community in Jos, killing at least 20 people, according to residents and local authorities. Residents<\/a> said \u200bthe gunmen arrived in the Gari Ya Waye community of \u200bAngwan Rukuba district and shot at people indiscriminately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 30, 2026,  an X user, SIZWE-BANSI (@SizweBansii), shared a video<\/a> (archived link<\/a>) showing a woman mourning. The user claimed that the woman lost her son and husband in the recent killings in Jos, Plateau State. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the nearly two-minute video, the woman is wailing on the bare ground while Chude Jideonwo, a Nigerian TV host, filmmaker and media entrepreneur, asks questions to understand the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The post was accompanied by the caption: \u201cHer son and husband have just been murdered by Islamic terrorists in Jos, Nigeria. Christian communities in Nigeria have been ravaged by Islamic terrorists, and many innocent lives have been lost. How much longer can the world tolerate this satanic Islam?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of Mar 30, 2026, the video had garnered over 489,000 views, 22,000 likes, 11,000 reposts, and more than 1,000 comments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A.Paul (@embracelovetv) reacting to the video wrote, \u201cOh God, have mercy on this woman and all the other families and bring comfort beyond human understanding. This is too much to bear for her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another user, king wings (@wings_6070), also wrote sympathetically, \u201cHer husband. Her son. Gone in a moment in Jos. This is more than news, it\u2019s a lifetime of grief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the sensitive nature of the claim and its rapid spread, DUBAWA verified the video’s authenticity and context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To verify the authenticity of the video, DUBAWA conducted a keyword search to see if credible media organisations have reported the news, but found no credible reports linking the viral video to the recent Jos attack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We extracted Keyframes from the video and subjected them to reverse image searches using Google Images<\/a> and InVID. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results led us to Chude\u2019s YouTube<\/a> page, which showed that the footage is not new and has circulated online before the March 2026 killings in Jos.  We traced earlier versions of the video to Dec. 12, 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chude had done a documentary in December when he visited Plateau State to investigate if there was really Christian genocide in Northern Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While multiple news outlets have reported the attack in Jos, none of the reports includes visuals matching the viral footage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
