The ongoing developments around the Biafra agitation<\/a> have kept the movement in the spotlight, especially in Nigeria\u2019s southeast. While many people follow these updates closely, some of the group\u2019s social media accounts continue to push claims that are often false or misleading. See some of these claims debunked by DUBAWA here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Facebook user, @Funny wise man<\/a>, recently claimed (archived here<\/a>) that after a protest organised by the wife of Nnamdi Kanu went viral, the United Nations (UN) responded by allowing Biafrans to have their own international passport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The claim, shared in video format, shows a man explaining the development. He said, \u201cThe United Nations has granted Biafrans the right to have their own international passport. After the massive protest organised by  Kanu\u2019s wife over the visit of Bola Tinubu to see King Charles III, some international communities saw the video and decided that Biafrans should have their own international passport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also added that Donald Trump had seen the development and requested to see the Biafran map, having previously heard about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of April 8, 2026, the post had about 11,000 likes, 987 comments, 3,900 shares, and 100,000 views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also read comments on the post to understand what those who engaged with it thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

@Akachukwu Samuel<\/a>, for instance, praised IPOB\u2019s efforts, stating that the group is \u201cdoing a great job\u201d and commending its leadership and loyal members for their role in the struggle for Biafra\u2019s freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, other users shared related sentiments. @Samuel Michael <\/a>suggested that the development means \u201cBiafra is now a country of its own.\u201d  At the same time, @Lampard Onyemaechi<\/a> expressed personal support, stating that he is \u201cnow fully committed to Biafra\u201d with gratitude to \u201cGod Almighty and the international community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In light of the claim\u2019s wide reach and the reactions generated, DUBAWA decided to verify it to prevent the spread of misinformation about Biafra\u2019s status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

DUBAWA began by using keywords from the claim to determine whether any such statement had been made or publicised. First, we checked the United Nations<\/a>\u2019 official website but found no announcement of that nature. We also searched reports from both local <\/a>and international <\/a>news platforms<\/a>, but none mentioned the claim. The results that did appear covered only other UN activities, none of which resembled the statement in question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because the Facebook post also mentioned Trump, we checked the official White House <\/a>website and his social media<\/a> accounts to see whether he had requested <\/a>a map of Biafra, but found no evidence of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We found a YouTube<\/a> video showing that Uchechi Kanu participated in a protest that coincided with Bola Tinubu’s visit to meet King Charles III in March 2026. During the protest, she spoke about perceived injustices against the Biafran people and demanded the release of her husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the protest occurred, we found no evidence linking it to the UN or to Trump, and the UN certainly did not set aside an international passport for the Biafran people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
