Reno Omokri on Oct. 4 tweeted a video<\/a> that went viral with 327 retweets and 5,699 views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another Twitter handle by name Kikilomo Sowore<\/a> tweeted the video- which amassed over 5K views, 303 retweets and 379 likes. Wotzup.ng<\/a> and Nairaland.com also reshared the video; with the latter sharing another purported video of Sowore calling for a revolution against the military regime in 1998.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CONTEXT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sowore is currently standing trial after the Department for State Security (DSS) arrested him for treasonable felony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nigerians had criticised President Buhari for arresting Sowore having called for same revolution- albeit through the polls<\/a> during President Jonathan\u2019s administration, without being arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Sowore has since been granted bail, although, with stringent conditions. Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu granted bail to Sowore in the sum of N100m with two sureties in like sum.  On Friday, Oct. 4, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to Mr Omoyele Sowore, and co-defendant, Olawale Bakare. However, he is still in detention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For verification, we employed a host of web forensic tools – Invid video search<\/a>, google reverse search and a simple web were some of the tools utilized. Google reverse search did not provide any useful results. A web search revealed videos for Kikelomo and other twitter handles that retweeted the video. Invid video search also provided no viable results, labelling it- UNCONFIRMED. The video we believe may have emanated from the or an Instagram handle for Sowore; or so we thought. Checks on the social media platform for the user handle, \u201cAristocrat UNILAG\u201d were also futile; leading us to believe the account might have been deleted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nonetheless, listening in on the video, there is no mention of any administration or President Buhari. However, it is clear that Sowore did indeed call for a revolution against the government of the day. Although, this could be any administration given Sowore’s long record of activism. There\u2019s also no media report of President Buhari referencing Sowore’s comment in the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
