A twitter post claims that the immediate past acting-Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Joi Nunieh, accused Senator Peter Nwaoboshi of collecting 1billion Naira monthly from the NDDC.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has come under scrutiny since it was summoned by the National Assembly over alleged misappropriation of funds. The Senate on May 5 set up a seven-member ad-hoc committee<\/a> to probe the \u201cfinancial recklessness\u201d of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NDDC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee was tasked to specifically probe the IMC for allegedly squandering 40 billion Naira in just three months. They were also commissioned to probe other financial transactions within the period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta Affairs commenced an investigative hearing into the mismanagement of 81.5 billion Naira between January and July 2020 by the same IMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This investigation rapidly turned chaotic, leading to multiple allegations. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, the matter seemed to attract more public interest when a twitter post<\/a> by  Ferdinand Rogers claimed that the commission’s former MD accused the chairman Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Peter Nwaoboshi, of receiving one billion Naira monthly from the NDDC by proxy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the post, Ms Nunieh said this when she appeared before the House of Representatives Committee via Zoom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These avalanche of identical claims necessitated scrutiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dubawa conducted a keyword search and found out that only one article by Qed.ng <\/a>reflected this accusation. While other news platforms reported her testimony, none published this accusation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further search showed a report by vanguard<\/a> on Ms Nunieh\u2019s appearance, which was accompanied by a video of her testimony via Zoom. All through the 37-minute video reviewed by Dubawa, Mrs Nunieh did not at any point make that accusation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one-hour-12-minute video showed that the only time Mrs Nunieh made mention of Senator Nwaoboshi was to clarify that she did not name him as the senator receiving that amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
