The note was posted by M\u00e9decins Qu\u00e9bec Nice\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">The report was published by Nigerian news blogs and websites including <a href=\"https:\/\/bodexng.com\/2020\/07\/seven-hundred-canadian-doctors-protest-due-to-excessive-payment-of-salary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BodexNg<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/gidifeed.com\/seven-hundred-canadian-doctors-protest-due-to-excessive-payment-of-salary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gidi Feed<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>VERIFICATION<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">A Google Reverse Image search showed that the post appeared on <a href=\"https:\/\/9gag.com\/gag\/a3wRVYN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">9GAG<\/a> on July 6, 2020, with the caption: \u201cHow Canadian is this news??\u201d thereby attracting not less than 88 comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">The snapshot was also circulated on the instant messaging app, WhatsApp on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Some other Nigerians who also posted this snapshot on WhatsApp and Twitter including Temmytourpe Collins&#x1f1f3;&#x1f1ec; who <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sagamu1stSON\/status\/1283656069068263424\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tweeted at @sagamu1stSON lamented<\/a> that the situation is different from Nigerian where doctors protest non-payment of salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">A similar version of the report was also published by <a href=\"https:\/\/watchpostdaily.com\/?p=17047\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Watch Post Daily<\/a> on July 8, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>FINDINGS<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Checks by Nigerian Tribune showed that the report was re-invented from 2018 when it was first published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">The snapshot in circulation showed that the protest took place in 2018. This, however, didn\u2019t stop the people from re-circulating the image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Google Reverse Image search showed that the image was first circulated in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Further checks revealed that the protest was reported between March 6 and March 12, 2018, by <a href=\"https:\/\/guardian.ng\/news\/canadian-doctors-protest-against-salary-increase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guardian NG<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/03\/06\/canadian-doctor-protest-their-own-pay-raises.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNBC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2018\/03\/08\/health\/canada-doctor-raises-trnd\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNN<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/worldviews\/wp\/2018\/03\/07\/hundreds-of-canadian-doctors-demand-lower-salaries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Washington Post<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-43336410\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/fact-check\/canada-doctors-pay-rise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">check<\/a> done by Snopes on March 21, 2018 also showed that the report as at the time it was circulated and reported in 2018 was true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Snopes reported that: \u201cOn 25 February 2018, MQRP (which stands for M\u00e9decins Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois pour le R\u00e9gime Public, or Quebecois Doctors for the Public Plan, a group of 500 Quebecois doctors dedicated to retaining the province\u2019s universal public health system) published an open letter explaining their opposition to pay hikes negotiated between doctors\u2019 unions and the provincial government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs of 21 March, the letter had garnered 944 signatures from people describing themselves as doctors or medical students. It\u2019s not clear whether or how MQRP is able to prevent someone who is not a registered medical professional from signing the online petition, so we can\u2019t be sure how many of the names listed under the letter actually belong to health professionals. Even if they all do, the 944 names listed on 21 March 2018 would still make up only 4.5 percent of the total number of doctors in Quebec.
