{"id":8815,"date":"2021-07-25T11:38:59","date_gmt":"2021-07-25T10:38:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/?p=8815"},"modified":"2021-07-25T11:39:04","modified_gmt":"2021-07-25T10:39:04","slug":"how-to-get-verified-on-facebook-twitter-as-a-journalist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dubawa.org\/dir\/how-to-get-verified-on-facebook-twitter-as-a-journalist\/","title":{"rendered":"How to get verified on Facebook, Twitter as a journalist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The emergence of social media has apparently changed the traditional pattern of journalism, with a large number of journalists and media houses now relying, to some extent, on micro-blogging apps like Twitter, community platforms like Facebook, and Instagram for news sourcing and monitoring.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While this \u2014 all thanks also to artificial intelligence \u2014 is a significant landmark signposting a broadly advanced shift in the works of reporters, editors, copy editors and total newsroom culture, these social media platforms have mapped out a formulated set of rules and standard policies for their users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Twitter and Facebook are arguably the most popular of these social media platforms, based on the number of monetizable and active users according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Statista<\/a>, a German company specialising in market and consumer data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of the first quarter of 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/242606\/number-of-active-twitter-users-in-selected-countries\/#:~:text=Global%20Twitter%20usage,former%20U.S.%20president%20Barack%20Obama.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter had 199 million<\/a> while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/346167\/facebook-global-dau\/#:~:text=With%20roughly%202.85%20billion%20monthly,most%20popular%20social%20network%20worldwide.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Facebook boasted roughly 2.85<\/a> billion monthly active users globally which make it the most popular app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the continued global embrace of the internet, these powerful apps have adopted a means of authenticating their users. And among those at the mercy of this verification are journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Verification on Twitter<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For journalists, Twitter is the best news sourcing site, having over the time evolved from being a regular community to the best place to seek genuine information, though with no exception to the spread of fake news.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The micro-blogging platform has its verification represented by the <strong>\u201cblue tick badge.<\/strong>\u201d The verification checkmark is a badge of authenticity and credibility and is still one of the most sought after according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-to-get-verified-on-twitter?international=true&amp;r=US&amp;IR=T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Business Insider.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the verification is not for everyone. To be eligible to get verified, your account must fall into one of the following categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Government<\/li><li>Companies, brands, and organizations<\/li><li><strong>News organizations and journalists<\/strong><\/li><li>Entertainment<\/li><li>Sports and gaming<\/li><li>Activists, organizers, and other influential individuals<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your account must also adhere to the<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/help.twitter.com\/en\/managing-your-account\/about-twitter-verified-accounts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Twitter Rules<\/strong><\/a> which require:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Complete<\/strong>: You must have a profile name, and a profile image;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Active use<\/strong>: You must have logged into the account in the last 6 months;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Security<\/strong>: The account must have a confirmed email address or phone number; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Twitter Rules<\/strong>: The account must not have had a 12-hour or 7-day lockout for violating the Twitter Rules in the past 6 months (excluding successful appeals).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And here we go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you fulfil the criteria for a blue verification check, then you are good to go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1.
