The conflict, which is fundamentally a resource control problem between farmers and herders across the country, is fast sharpening ethnic, regional, and religious polarisation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While most of the herders can be said to be Muslim-Fulani, who are traditionally nomadics, the farmers are often found across Christian denominations of various ethnic groups. Some of the problems identified are related to land and water use, obstruction of traditional migration routes, livestock theft, and crop damage.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crisisgroup.org\/africa\/west-africa\/nigeria\/252-herders-against-farmers-nigerias-expanding-deadly-conflict\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report by the International Crisis Group<\/a> said \u201cdrought and desertification have degraded pastures, dried up many natural water sources across Nigeria\u2019s far-northern Sahelian belt and forced large numbers of herders to migrate south in search of grassland and water for their herds. Insecurity in many northern states also prompts increasing numbers of herdsmen to migrate south\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amnesty International in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2018\/12\/nigeria-government-failures-fuel-escalating-conflict-between-farmers-and-herders-as-death-toll-nears-4000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a report<\/a> published in 2018 said about 3,641 persons were killed in various farmers-herders clashes between Jan. 2016 and Oct. 2018. The report also revealed that no fewer than 406 people were injured and 182,530 persons displaced following the destruction of 5,000 houses in various states across Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/Kcn3ihOznRhAmQWwQrrvxMRvci8wM_FtjQLMy0IyjmYR-yMe8tWQQL8sANDTCWMPYNqosh2q9NIffjYIHMyiqtoy7T3k9a3a3wAV-FUCFqmyelELdfHWA24_fFiF_fZfpV8a2IwH\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><figcaption>Image used to illustrate a herder with cattle. Here are our top picks of likely-to-be-false news which [sadly] couldn\u2019t be fact-checked<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CLAIM:<\/strong> <strong>KADUNA UPDATE: EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SOURCE: WhatsApp Message<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A WhatsApp message with an attached link creates awareness about vacant positions at an alleged multi-billion naira Iron ore mining company located in Gujeni, Kaduna state. The message listed the following as posts required to be filled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Field Engineer<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. Mechanical &amp; Electrical University Graduates&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3. Shift Foreman<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4. Boiler Field Operator<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5. Turbine Field Operator<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">6. Shift Engineers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">7. Fitter Mechanic<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">8. Electrical Shift Engineer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">9. Electrician<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">10. Instrumentation Technicians<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">11. Chemist<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">12. But how true is this? This question is important as there are lots of fake job vacancies\/ recruitments circulating the media space. And this could be one of them.
