An X user, @StelxyG, claims (archived here) that The Federal University, Ado-Ekiti, has awarded an electrical and electronics student, Kolapo Segun, a double promotion for attaining a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.92.
This user attached a letter communicating this promotion. Part of the letter read, “The University Senate, at its 102nd regular meeting held on April 20, 2026, has, after a thorough review of academic records, approved your DOUBLE PROMOTION from 100 Level to 300 Level. This is in recognition of your exceptional academic performance and outstanding results during the 2025/2026.”
As of Monday, May 4, 2026, the post has generated 649,500 views, 975 comments, 543 retweets, 1,400 likes, and 231 bookmarks.
DUBAWA checked the comment section and noticed that other X users held conflicting views. While some users believed the tweet, others dismissed it as false.
“What happens to the things he is supposed to learn in 2024?” @queenie_baybe inquired.
“Ekiti people,” @Opulent_Maisha commented.
“You know this is fake, but you still posted it for engagement!” @bombasticvibes objected.
Due to the sensitivity of the tweet and the engagement it amassed, DUBAWA decided to verify the claim.
Verification
DUBAWA noticed that in the letter, the phrase “The Federal University Ado-Ekiti” was written as the name of the academic institute that awarded the double promotion. However, in Ekiti, there is no tertiary institution with that name. The only tertiary institution with a similar name is the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti. Moreover, the only Federal institution in Ado-Ekiti is the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.
We also noticed that the claimant used the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti’s logo in the letter, even though the letter described the alleged institute as a university.
Meanwhile, the official seal of the Federal University, Ado-Ekiti, was stamped on the letter. Neither the school nor such an official stamp exists.
Conclusion
The claim is false. DUBAWA discovered that the letter contained several red flags, and the tertiary institution referenced in the letter does not exist.
