A Facebook user, Imran Sesay, recently posted on social media claiming that Dr Samura Kamara, the 2018 and 2023 presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), had been involved in a serious car accident. The post mentioned that the incident happened while he was travelling from Kabatha Junction to Kamalo.
This post attracted a lot of attention and reactions on social media. Many people began to share the post, some expressing concern and others spreading it without verifying the information.
Due to the rapid spread of the claim and the public interest surrounding it, DUBAWA decided to investigate the truth behind the matter.
Verification
DUBAWA contacted Alhaji Demans Kargbo, a close relative and nephew of Dr Samura Kamara.
According to Mr Kargbo, the news was utterly false. He said Dr Samura Kamara was doing fine and had not been involved in any accident on the route mentioned or elsewhere.
He further stated that the rumour was likely fabricated by people trying to mislead the public or create panic.
DUBAWA also consulted reliable media sources, including both print and online newspapers and news websites in Sierra Leone. None reported anything about Samura being involved in an accident. Usually, if a high-profile political figure like Samura had been in such a situation, it would have been reported widely by trusted media outlets. But in this case, no such report was found.
Conclusion
The claim by Facebook user Imran Sesay that Dr Samura Kamara was involved in a car accident between Kabatha and Kamalo is false.
