Former Ivorian professional footballer, Didier Drogba, has debunked the news of his conversion to Islam.
The football star took to his Facebook and Twitter accounts to make this known.
“This story is going viral but I haven’t changed my religion. This was just me paying respect to my Muslim brothers that I was visiting in the village. A moment of togetherness,” a part of his post read.
Recently, a Facebook Blog (Hope For Africa), wrote in a post that the former Chelsea star has converted to Islam.
“Ivorian legend Didier Drogba converts to Islam. He said he got a chance to know about Islam through his friend Yaya Toure,” the Facebook post read.
Attached to this post were photos of Mr Drogba (some of which were blurred) with his former national teammate Yaya Toure.
The photographs, which appeared to have been taken on different timelines and occasions, led to Facebook users either commending the former striker or berating him.
Seeing how viral the narrative had spread, Mr Drogba who had previously uploaded a photo grid of himself and his former teammate, Yaya Toure praying in a homestead, has now written both on his Facebook (Didier Drogba) and Twitter (@didierdrogba) pages that he hasn’t changed his religion.
