Full Text

A claim circulating on Threads says Nigerian musician Burna Boy was recently honoured by U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House. Similar claims can be found here, here, here, and here.

The post describes Burna Boy as a Nigerian-born Grammy Award winner and says he was “recently honoured” by Trump. It uses photographs purportedly showing the musician with Trump and Melania Trump outside the White House (archived here)

The claim has garnered over 270 comments, 170 shares, and over 200 other engagements.

DUBAWA investigated the claim because of its virality to find out the truth.

Verification

DUBAWA reviewed the Official White House platform for evidence of the alleged meeting or honour. No official White House record confirming that Burna Boy was received or honoured by President Trump was found.

DUBAWA also checked Donald Trump’s official Truth Social account for posts relating to Burna Boy, the alleged White House meeting or the purported honour. No such post or announcement was found. Searches of Trump’s official social-media presence similarly produced no confirmation of the alleged event.

The musician’s official social media platforms were also reviewed for evidence that he had attended an event at the White House or been honoured by President Trump. No corresponding announcement, photograph, or statement confirming the claim was found. Burna Boy’s official social media platforms can be found on Instagram, Facebook, his official website, and X (formerly Twitter).

The absence of a record on these official platforms is significant because the claim concerns a purported official engagement involving the U.S. president at the White House. Such an event would ordinarily be expected to have some form of official documentation or announcement.

DUBAWA also subjected the circulated photographs to AI-image analysis. The analysis returned a 100% probability of AI-generated content on two AI checkers. This provides further evidence that the photographs are not genuine photographs of Burna Boy meeting Trump.

A visual examination of the photographs also raises concerns about their authenticity. The images contain characteristics commonly associated with AI-generated imagery, including inconsistencies in the appearance and rendering of people and objects.

The image was additionally examined using an online EXIF viewer. The EXIF information contains only basic technical details, including a resolution of 720 × 817 pixels, colour space information and other general file properties. It does not contain information identifying the camera or phone used to capture the photograph, the date and time it was taken, or its geographical location.

The absence of this information in the EXIF findings provides additional context when considered alongside the 100% AI-analysis result and the lack of confirmation from the White House, Trump’s official platforms, and Burna Boy’s official social-media accounts.

Conclusion

The claim that Burna Boy was recently honoured by U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House is false.

DUBAWA found no official confirmation of the alleged event from the White House or Donald Trump’s official Truth Social account, while Burna Boy’s official social-media platforms also contain no evidence confirming such a visit or honour.

Furthermore, an AI-image analysis of the photographs returned a 100% probability that the images were AI-generated. The EXIF examination also found no original camera, date, time or location information in the circulated image.
