Claim: Alternative National Congress Secretary General, Desmond Nimely, has alleged that the Collaborating Political Parties won five seats during the 2020 Senatorial election.

Alternative National Congress Secretary General Desmond Nimely has claimed that the Collaborating Political Parties won five seats in the 2020 Senatorial election.

Desmond made the claim during a live interview on Focal TV. The claim was made 13 minutes into the live interview. Emmanuel Foday Wah also carried Desmond’s appearance live on his Facebook page.

The live interview generated 19 likes, 1 comment, and 52 shares.

Formed in 2018, the Collaborating Political Parties was issued a certificate of Accreditation by the National Election Commission in August 2020 under the chairmanship of Alexander Cummings.

The CPP consisted of four registered Political Parties, including the Alternative National Congress, Unity Party, Liberty Party, and the All Liberian Party.

DUBAWA decided to conduct a fact-check of the claim as part of a mandate to counter misinformation and disinformation, and to promote truth-telling in public discourse.

Verification

Our researcher visited the National Elections Commission website and reviewed the 2020 senatorial election results.

The NEC result shows that the CPP won 6 seats in the senatorial election.
